Best for couples, families and small groups seeking snorkeling-led expedition cruising, wildlife, culture and guided island exploration rather than dedicated scuba diving.
Katharina is a traditional Indonesian pinisi operated by SeaTrek Sailing Adventures. The 38-metre vessel carries 12 guests in six ensuite, air-conditioned cabins, creating a small-group base for expedition cruising, snorkeling, wildlife encounters and cultural visits across eastern Indonesia.
Built in Kalimantan and sailing since 1995, Katharina has a 26-metre deck length, a 3.5-metre draught and a gaff-rigged ketch sail plan. Her published cruising speed is seven to nine knots. A professional crew of 12 supports a standard guest capacity of 12.
The operator publishes international-standard navigation and safety equipment, including radar and a satellite phone. Life jackets, two fully equipped life rafts and two tender boats are also listed.
All six guest cabins are on the lower deck and include individually controlled air conditioning, a private ensuite bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, storage and natural light through deck hatches.
Two Double Cabins each have a full double bed, under-bed storage and a dresser. Two Triple Cabins combine a double bed with a retractable upper single bunk intended for a child aged 12 or under. The published standard capacity remains 12 guests, although the child bunks can increase total capacity to 14 when the operator approves the arrangement. Two Twin Bunk Cabins each have upper and lower single beds, personal storage and a dresser.
Indoor facilities include a saloon and bar. Outdoor living is spread across a shaded dining area, a lower-deck lounging area and an upper-deck lounging area. Daily laundry service is published as an onboard facility.
Guest equipment includes kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, snorkeling equipment, swimming noodles and fishing gear. Briefings and presentations can be held indoors or outdoors with the tour leader and visiting experts.
SeaTrek operates Katharina on long-form expedition routes rather than short Labuan Bajo open trips. Published schedules include nine-day Komodo-area voyages, ten-day Raja Ampat cruises and longer crossings linking places such as Ambon, Kaimana, Sorong, Ternate, Bitung and Komodo.
The Komodo itinerary combines snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding and island landings with wildlife and cultural experiences. Published highlights can include Komodo dragon trekking, manta and turtle encounters, whale-shark snorkeling, village visits, coral-restoration activities and time around Gili Lawa. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
Raja Ampat programs focus on snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, forest walks, limestone landscapes, cultural sites and birdwatching. Weather, tides, local conditions and unexpected opportunities can change the final daily route, with the captain and tour leader retaining operational control.
The operator’s schedule available on 10 September 2026 lists selected nine-day/eight-night Komodo departures on Katharina from USD 6,320 per person in 2027. Published ten-day/nine-night Raja Ampat departures in late 2026 are USD 8,100 per person plus a USD 200 fuel surcharge. Dates, availability, taxes, local fees and inclusions can change, so request a current itemised quotation before payment.
Katharina is offered on shared scheduled expeditions and can also be privately chartered. Charter routing may follow an existing itinerary or be adapted with the operator.
Katharina best suits couples, families and small groups looking for a classic pinisi experience with a strong emphasis on snorkeling, nature, culture and guided exploration. It is presented as an expedition vessel rather than a dedicated scuba-diving liveaboard.
Confirm the exact vessel, cabin allocation, child-bunk approval, embarkation and disembarkation ports, transfers, fuel surcharge, applicable park or local fees, dietary needs, insurance requirements, payment schedule and cancellation conditions in writing. Guests should also disclose mobility or medical considerations before booking because tender transfers, stairs, wet landings and uneven island trails may be part of the voyage.
